Household Remedies For Acid Reflux

Many people with acid reflux need to see their doctor for their problem. If you have only started having problems and discomfort, you may be able to use a natural cure. Everyday items you have in your pantry may work as well as changing your diet and the way you live.

One such cure is apple cider vinegar. If you put a few tablespoons in a glass of water, adding honey to kill the taste, down this and more water afterward to rinse your teeth. Baking soda is another cure that has been used by many. Mix a tablespoon in water, drink it, and more water and in no time you will be feeling like a new person. Another homemade remedy includes mixing these three ingredients; apples, yogurt, and honey. When you feel the symptoms of acid reflux, eat this and it should stop you from having a full blown attack.

Many people do not realize that water is a natural cure for it. When you drink plenty of water, your stomach has a much easier time breaking food down for digestion. This in turn produces less acid. Staying hydrated is very important and even more so when you eat. You do not have to drink gallons of water but drinking it with meals will improve your digestive system. Fiber also plays an important role in reducing acid. Eating fruits that do not contain a lot of acid, such as bananas and melons, will aid your digestive system in breaking down food. The Five a Day rule applies here. Having five servings of fruits and vegetables a day will help your stomach do it's job and make you feel better. Leafy green vegetables, whole grains, and oats and bran are all excellent choices.

The worst time for a flare-up and discomfort seems to be at night when people go to bed. Another natural cure for acid reflux is to put something under the feet of your bed to raise it a few inches or under your mattress at the head of the bed. When you elevate your head, the likelihood of acid rising from your stomach to your esophagus is less. Do not eat right before you go to bed. At least two hours are required to digest food before you retire for the night.

This is not to say that any of these home remedies will work for you. However if you limit the foods that cause the flare-ups, drink plenty of water, and the right kinds of foods are eaten, you may have less problems with acid reflux. If none of these seem to help, it may be time to discuss another solution with your doctor.
